rp² recently delivered a 1.5-day hybrid Drill Well on Paper (DWOP) workshop in Pointe-Noire, Republic of Congo, supporting a deepwater exploration well and bringing together both in-person and remote teams for focused technical collaboration.
This hybrid format enabled key stakeholders across disciplines and locations to engage fully in the planning process, ensuring alignment and readiness ahead of offshore execution.
Facilitated Technical Alignment Across Teams
The workshop was led by Dave Taylor, with remote facilitation support from Duncan Mackay, providing a structured environment for cross-disciplinary discussion and interactive group work.
Through detailed technical sessions, participants worked collaboratively to:
- Review the drilling programme in depth
- Confirm equipment and operational readiness
- Identify key operational risks
- Strengthen interface coordination across teams
These discussions supported a shared understanding of responsibilities, execution priorities, and risk mitigations, helping build confidence in safe and efficient delivery.
Value of the Hybrid Workshop Format
The success of this DWOP clearly demonstrated that the hybrid workshop format remains highly effective in achieving the primary objectives of Drill Well on Paper sessions.
By enabling participation from both local and remote contributors, the workshop ensured strong engagement while maintaining the technical depth required for exploration well planning.
What Participants Said
Participants highlighted the value of the discussions and collaboration:
- “The discussions helped identify potential gaps and strengthened confidence in the plan.”
- “Good interaction and collaboration across teams, with valuable inputs captured.”
- “Well facilitated, encouraging open and productive discussion.”
Appreciation and Collaboration
rp² would like to thank everyone who joined and actively contributed throughout the sessions. The open participation, constructive dialogue, and collaborative mindset were essential to the success of the workshop.
Supporting a Meaningful Local Cause
In addition to the technical outcomes, the workshop included a feedback survey draw and door prizes, including Kopi Luwak (civet-processed coffee).
As part of the random name draw from submitted feedback, a charity benefiting vulnerable young women in Congo was selected. rp² was pleased to make a €250 donation in support of this important cause.
