It's often said that it's obvious why you need to conduct a formal DWOP for a highly expensive deepwater well but when it comes to lower cost wells we cannot afford the cost of a DWOP.
We thought we would challenge this thinking – after all it’s the fracking wells on mainland North America that are expensive and struggling as oil goes below $30/bbl. November saw another first for rp2 in facilitating our first Canadian DWOP. The one-day session brought 40 operator and contractor personnel together in Calgary to support the re-start of a development drilling campaign in northern Alberta.
Workshop focus teams generated 177 potential action points for optimisation opportunity across all well phases and activities. Flat time opportunities alone accounted for 11% of current average well times with an ongoing impact of over $4M on an annualised basis.
