About Shaun
Shaun is a Chartered Petroleum Engineer with nearly three decades of experience across operators, service companies, and government regulators. He specialises in well integrity, orphan and inactive wells, decommissioning, and regulatory compliance, combining deep technical knowledge with practical operational insight.
He is known for simplifying complex integrity and liability challenges and providing clear, defensible advice that supports safe operations and sound regulatory alignment. His ongoing technical interests include well repurposing opportunities, geothermal development, and applying Technical Limit (TL) performance principles across the lifecycle of petroleum wells.
He has delivered engineering, regulatory, and operational work across Australia, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the UK.
How Shaun Can Help
- Orphan & inactive wells – risk reviews, inspections, barrier assessments, and remediation pathways
- Well integrity – failure analysis, barrier philosophy, surveillance and integrity modelling
- Decommissioning – P&A strategy, regulatory alignment, and technical input
- Compliance & investigations – inspections, enforcement analysis, defensible regulatory documentation
- Workshop Contributions (RP²-delivered) – Shaun provides technical capability in Technical Limit (TL), well integrity, and risk-based decision-making, contributing SME support to RP²-facilitated workshops such as DWOP/TWOP and readiness reviews
- Drilling & operations – planning, optimisation, wellsite supervision, and performance improvement
Professional Background
Northern Territory – Orphan & Inactive Wells Programme
Led Australia’s first legacy-wells programme, developing inspection protocols, UAV-based surveillance, methane monitoring, and integrity/risk frameworks. NT regulatory responsibilities also covered aspects of the geothermal energy industry, including compliance, notifications, and monitoring under NT petroleum and geothermal legislation.
Queensland Petroleum Assessment & Gas Security
Delivered technical assessments and policy input on supply resilience, regulatory reform, and energy-security considerations, drawing on experience across conventional and unconventional petroleum resources including shale gas, tight gas, CSG, UCS, and geothermal activities. Provided integrity-focused insight and practical engineering context to support clear, risk-informed decision-making.
Bridgeport Energy – Drilling, Production & Safety
Directed drilling and production operations across multiple Queensland oilfields and introduced SCADA-based Not Normally Manned operations.
Roc Oil – International Drilling & Completions
Managed offshore and onshore drilling/completions across Australia, China, West Africa, and Asia-Pacific.
Halliburton – Drilling Engineering & Optimisation
Served as global SME for Magnetic Azimuth Correction (MAC3) and contributed to early deepwater pore-pressure detection systems and geosteering optimisation.
Shaun also provides consulting support through Performance Drilling Services, assisting regulatory bodies, operators, and service companies with engineering reviews, documentation, risk workshops, and field execution support.
